PSC - Physical Science

PSC 1012  Physical Science - Physics for Teachers (GE)  (2 Units)  
An introductory survey of selected principles in physics with a discussion of related societal and environmental issues. This course focuses on topics necessary for the California multiple-subject teaching credential (K-8).
Letter grade.  
Pre or Corequisite(s): MTH 1013 or equivalent.  
Both PSC 1012 and PSC 1022 must be taken in order to satisfy the GELO1 requirement. Offered as a quad course.  
PSC 1022  Physical Science - Chemistry for Teachers (GE)  (2 Units)  
An introductory survey of selected principles in chemistry with a discussion of related societal and environmental issues. This course focuses on topics necessary for the California multiple-subject teaching credential (K-8).
Letter grade.  
Pre or Corequisite(s): MTH 1013 or equivalent.  
Both PSC 1012 and PSC 1022 must be taken in order to satisfy the GELO1 requirement. Offered as a quad course.  
PSC 1023  Earth and Space Science for Teachers  (3 Units)  
An introductory survey of the disciplines of geology, oceanography, meteorology, and astronomy with discussion of philosophical and societal issues. This course focuses on topics necessary for the California multiple subject teaching credential (K-8).

Prerequisite(s): PSC 1012 and PSC 1022  
PSC 3004  Astronomy (GE)  (3 Units)  
An introduction to astronomy for non-majors covering the night sky, gravity and orbits, light and spectra, telescopes, the Sun and stars, galaxies, black holes, cosmology, and exoplanets.
Letter grade.  
Prerequisite(s): MTH 1013 or equivalent, or MTH 3003  
Corequisite(s): PSC 3004L

A hands-on exploration of topics in PSC 3004 including optics and spectroscopy and analysis of real astronomical data (e.g., light curves, HR diagrams).
