Student Conduct Introduction

Point Loma Nazarene University recognizes the student as a young adult pursuing an education. When entering the university, students take upon themselves certain responsibilities and obligations. The current Traditional Undergraduate Student Handbook defines the standards of conduct for all PLNU traditional undergraduate students enrolled at the Point Loma Campus. Four very clear non-negotiable behavioral expectancies exist:

  • Excellence in academic performance
  • Civility in all communications
  • Abstinence from drugs, alcohol, smoking, and all forms of tobacco
  • Communicating respect for self, others, and for property

These expectations are consistent with successful academic progress, and with the Christian and social heritage of PLNU.

Point Loma Nazarene University wishes to assist students in leading congruent lives that are based on integrity and truth. The student conduct policies are based on a set of shared and biblical values, and establish the expectations for PLNU traditional undergraduate students regardless of where and when their behaviors occur. Therefore, students engaging in inappropriate conduct may be held accountable to these standards, regardless if the behavior is on or off campus. Students may also be held accountable for statements and publications that they make, whether in printed or any electronic form, that are inconsistent with the student conduct policies. The Traditional Undergraduate Student Handbook is maintained by the Office of Student Life and Formation. Questions or comments may be directed to the Vice President of Student Life and Formation, Mary Paul, D.Min, marypaul@pointloma.edu.
