This course provides an introduction to the field of public administration. Topics covered include the practices of government, the principles of management, the ethics of leadership, and an overview of current pressing issues in the field.

This course provides an understanding of U.S. administrative law and procedures as well as a survey of the history and current state of the bureaucracy. The role of agency discretion and practice of bureaucracy in a democratic society is also considered.
This course teaches the practical skill of grant writing in the professional setting. Sources of funding for projects and initiatives will be explored, along with accounting and budgeting methods for government and organizations within the field.
This course considers the functions of government and its institutions at the state, county, and city levels within the framework of federalism. The participation of and interaction with constituents in the democratic process and the challenge of policy implementation is given special emphasis in this comparative course that focuses on California governmental systems.
A study of the policymaking process in the United States, illustrated by an in-depth study of three contemporary public policy issues. We will discuss theories and policies, as well as critiques of them, in terms of equality, democracy, and citizenship. Students will then become a "policymaker" and a "policy analyst."
This capstone course provides students the opportunity to weave together program learning to propose a partnership with organizations from other sectors that addresses a pressing societal issue of their interest. Students will assess all aspects of their proposed partnership and produce a final project.
